Auditory Integration Training
Practitioner:
Keri Snedden of Snedden Enrichment
Child: Paige
Date: May 13th – 22nd

Paige has Auditory Processing Disorder which has caused numerous learning difficulties. Upon hearing about this type of training, I was very excited to see how my child would respond and I was thankful that it is non-invasive and not medicine related. I read all the information provided to me as well as visiting websites to be as informed as possible prior to the training.

Prior to the training I met with Keri Snedden, who went over Paige’s developmental history with me and explained the positive and difficult behavior (I do not consider these negative because it means that it is working!) changes that could take place during and after the training. She was very supportive and encouraging and truly cared about Paige’s current developmental issues and was just as excited and hopeful about how the AIT would affect her.

What I was hoping for was that Paige would show some improvement in her expressive language and comprehension skills over the next 3 to 6 months. What I did not expect was to have Paige show changes within the first days of training. She was expressing herself much better and initiating conversations with people outside the family with confidence. She started to “hear” things and respond to them like I had never seen before. She could notice that she said the word “squirrel” different than I did; she started to ask some “why” questions and her conversations in general were much more on topic. She also finally got the connection between being irritable and being hungry. She started to sing with a tune and was able to hum a song without hearing it.

Some of the difficulties that she had during the training were increased irritability and demanding things, but very clearly without whining! She was also more sensitive to certain sounds and bumps while riding in the car. A loud car and a train’s horn both hurt her ears. She also had several headaches during the training and was also hungrier than normal.

She only complained once or twice about having to go to the training and they were for the second one of the day and she was involved in something that she didn’t want to stop playing in order to go. She was very cooperative putting on the headphones and sitting there for the session. She liked the music and has since said that she misses going to it.

I have gotten positive feedback from her teachers as well as family members. In general she is thought to have more expression in her face and her eye contact is much better and seems to have a “light” in them now. She seemed much better focused in class and more on target with a lesson than before. Her conversation skills have improved as well.

My experience with Berard AIT has only been positive. The changes I see in Paige are extraordinary and every tiny change that I observe is a miracle to me. The school system and I have tried many different techniques with Paige and we tended to see slight improvement over an entire school year. The fact that a ten-day/twenty hour auditory training could evoke such a positive response in a human’s ability to communicate within days is truly amazing. Words cannot describe how thankful I am for hearing about this training and to have had Paige undergo this training.
